Project Summary:
Land O’Lakes Venture37 is recruiting for a Deputy Chief of Party anticipation of an upcoming United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food for Progress (FFPr) Program that will address food security and assist in the transformation of the poultry sector with a focus on small and medium enterprises.
Position Summary:
The DCOP will support the Chief of Party (COP) by providing day-to-day guidance on project management and technical activities. S/he will work closely with the COP and other team members in designing, implementing, and monitoring project interventions to achieve the objectives and deliverables required under this activity. S/he will work with staff, home office and USAID to adjust programmatic approach, staffing and resources as required based on continuous monitoring of project activities. The position will be based in Iringa, Tanzania.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the COP in developing and executing project workplans and overseeing and implementing project activities.
- Provide leadership, management and direction to field-level activities.
- Collaborates with the COP to coordinate activities with the Government of Tanzania, USAID, the private sector, and implementing partners.
- Lead and oversee technical team and components and ensure activities align with the workplan.
- Adapt project implementation and activities to achieve objectives and targets as needed.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for technical activities to implementing partners.
- Ensure gender equality and socially inclusive approaches are integrated into programming and effectively implemented; regularly identify learnings, refining the design as needed to improve social inclusion across project activities.
- Provide or facilitate capacity building and training to team, beneficiaries, and partners.
- Assist the COP in monitoring, evaluation and reporting functions.
- Serve as Acting Chief of Party when required.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree (e.g. BA/BS) in agribusiness, animal science and/or management, agronomy, international development, economics, horticulture, business management or other relevant field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in designing and implementing agricultural development projects in a developing country, preferably impacting the poultry sub-sector.
- Practical technical experience in climate smart technologies, poultry, agribusiness, agricultural finance, animal health and nutrition, animal disease monitoring, agricultural policy, private sector engagement, marketing, and/or enterprise development.
- Proven leadership skills building and managing cooperative, high-level relationships and motivating diverse teams.
- Excellent interpersonal and written and oral presentation skills.
- English oral and written fluency.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a supervisory role with projects or enterprises of similar size and complexity.
- An advanced degree (e.g. Master’s) in agribusiness, animal science and/or management, agronomy, agricultural development, economics, business management or other relevant field.
- Experience working in Tanzania or the region.
- Swahili oral and written fluency.
