Job Summary

• To perform and manage all activities in a way that strict adherence to approved Credit and provisioning policy as well as the approved standard credit process and procedure are maintained.

Job Description

  • Main accountabilities and approximate time split

CREDIT PROCESS

  • Analysis, evaluation and provide recommendation to management-:50%
  • Ensure that borrowers have submitted all documents as per checklist.
  • Collate customer produced financial information
  • Responsible for managing financial information produced by customers.
  • Ensures that all credit applications are assessed within the agreed SLA time.
  • Ensure that every application has a written support from Head of SME before further processing the application.
  • Ensuring that assessment and recommendations of credit applications comply with requirements as per approved Credit and Provisioning Policy.
  • Analyze historic and projected financial information to identify key issues and monitor compliance with covenants and terms prior to discussing with Relationship Manager/SME Banker          
  • Perform Credit reference checks before processing the applications

  • Collate customer produced financial information
  • Attend customer meetings with the SME Bankers/Relationship Manager if credit related issues are to be discussed/ need to be resolved.
  • Ensure that all applications are done through CCRS
  • Conduct visits to both business premises and collateral.
  • PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT

    Monitoring performance of clients and where necessary propose remedial measure-50%

  • Monitor and Control quality of portfolio using ‘Condition of Sanction’ triggers where possible. Discussing with Sanctioners deteriorating trends and trigger events if they give cause for concern and advising the SME Banker/Relationship Manager simultaneously.
  • Responsible for managing all SME borrowing relationships.
  • Provide specific instruction to business and escalate any issue that will need other stakeholders’ attentions
  • Ensure that excesses are actioned timely and are diarized
  • Attend monthly portfolio review meetings i.e., Risk Reports Credit Committee (RRCC), Early warning List (EWL1)
  • Ensure Monthly risk report (MRR)are actioned and submitted timely.
  • Check on daily risk repot and work on exceptions and /or irregular behavior
  • Ensure that all facilities are timely reviewed.
  • Ensure covenants are tested accordingly and timely
  • Key Performance Indicators

  • All SME customers have the appropriate credit services and products to meet their financial requirements.
  • Documentation prepared for Sanction points are well-executed and authorised without delay.
  • Customers feel satisfied with the credit services they receive (both directly and indirectly).
  • Credit discrepancies in customer portfolios are recognised in a timely manner and dealt with quickly and effectively.
  • Risk and Controls Objectives

    Manage risk and control effectively by applying applicable risk frameworks and embedding a positive risk culture

  • Understanding of own role in the end-to-end processes in which you play a part, including applicable risks and controls.
  • Adhere to Absa’s policies and procedures applicable to own role, demonstrating sound judgement and responsible risk management.
  • Report all risk events / incidents / issues using the defined process for your business area and help to understand why these happened and how to prevent them in future. Proactively look for ways to improve the control environment by considering what could go wrong in the processes you operate and how errors could be prevented.
  • Continuous and proactive engagement with regulatory bodies, unions where applicable
  • All mandatory training completed to deadline

  • Knowledge of internal instructions/ procedures relating to the Credit Manual
  • Products and services frequently used by customers (Credit and otherwise).
  • Knowledge of CCRS and other bank systems.
  • Awareness of legislation affecting the Bank and customers having the highest regard for confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of the Bank’s service standards.
  • Knowledge of SME Lending
  • Detailed knowledge of credit analysis techniques
