The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) on behalf of WorldFish invites applications for Four positions: Project Manager, Senior Research Analyst and Research Analyst (2 positions)

POSITION – SENIOR RESEARCH ANALYST (Aquatic Food Loss and Waste)

JOB SPECIFICATION
Position Background (short summary of the job)
The Senior Research Analyst will play a key role in supporting the WP3 activities of the AABS project. Although the primary focus will be activities in Tanzania, there might be cases when some assignments in Kenya and Mozambique are conducted. This role is crucial for conducting targeted research, data analysis, and coordination efforts to implement climate-smart technologies and sustainable practices to reduce aquatic food loss and waste in small-scale fisheries in Tanzania. The position focuses on enhancing the sustainability of fisheries management by reducing loss and waste and improving post-harvest processes within the coastal regions.
Duty Station: The position will be based in Dar es Salam .
Education Qualification and Certification
- Required qualification is an MSc, with a minimum of five years of relevant experience in the sustainability of Aquatic Foods, such as in Postharvest Food Technology, Agricultural Engineering, Agribusiness, Fisheries, or the Food Industry.
- The qualification should specifically highlight a robust technical understanding and the integration of climate-smart practices and technologies within aquatic food value chains Skills, Experience and Knowledge (required to perform this job)
- Research and Data Analysis Expertise: Background in research and data analysis, with a preference for experience in fisheries, agricultural engineering, postharvest technology, or related areas. At least three to five years of experience as a post-harvest specialist in international organisations in developing regions, preferably in Africa.
- Project Coordination Experience: Experience in project coordination, particularly in an international or multicultural context.
- Knowledge of Sustainable Practices: In-depth understanding of sustainable practices and post-harvest climate-smart technologies in fisheries, agriculture, or related sectors
Desirable Skills/Experience (Nice-to-have to perform this job)
- Cross-Cultural Teamwork: Proven ability to work with diverse cross-cultural teams.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using statistical analysis software and data visualisation tools.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication capabilities, both written and oral, with fluency in English. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the project locations (Swahili) is highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and Data Analysis: Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on aquatic food loss, waste, and processing technologies in the target countries-Synthesise data to inform project strategies and decision-making.
- Project Coordination and Support: Assist the WP3 lead in coordinating activities across Tanzania, ensuring alignment with project objectives and timely execution.
- Cross-Country Collaboration: Facilitate communication and collaboration between project teams in different countries, ensuring cohesive efforts and knowledge sharing.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare detailed reports, research papers, and presentations to document project progress and findings. Contribute to academic publications and policy briefs.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with project stakeholders, including local communities, NGOs, government bodies, and private sector partners, to gather insights and foster collaborative relationships.
- Innovative Solutions Development: Contribute to developing and testing innovative, sustainable solutions in fish processing and waste reduction.

General information:
The duration of the contract for all the four positions is two years renewable subject to performance and availability of funds. These are nationally recruited position and IITA offers a competitive remuneration package.
