Responsibilities
- Lead a team of mining engineers to deliver integrated mine plans that ensure value creation.
- Demonstrate visible safety leadership to the team and live the Barrick DNA.

- Identify opportunities that create value and develop strategic projects aimed at improving mine efficiency and flexibility.
- Ensure Mining Instructions are aligned with Standard Operating Procedures
- All possible hazards on route and inside workplaces identified, rectified and/or reported daily when on shift.
- Zero involvement in an incident/ accident, those occurred are reported to Leader within the Shift
- At least Safety Interactions to be completed each week.
- Field Level Risk Assessment completed accurately for every task assigned.
- Team based Job Safety Analysis completed accurately for every task without a Standard Operating Procedure
- Carry out housekeeping activities before and after every task completed.
- Compliance to always wearing the correct PPE for the task.
- Zero complaints/grievances from customers about your Team Membership
- Leader confirms through evidence that you value team membership & actively participate.
- Mining Team members confirm on time, accurate & reliable designs & layouts through robust system when required.
- Haul route analysis
- Technical Services
- Drill & Blast patterns, QAQC
- Blast notifications, & post Blast reports
- Grade Control, Block Modelling
- Cost of mine plans
- Cut off grades calculation .
- Reserves & Resources
- Compliance to the daily tracking and weekly plan
- Compliance to all related Standard Operating Procedures during mine designs
- Identify & Apply Industry best practice principles throughout planning process.
- Compliance to required stope notes for all stopes.
- To ensure drill design for all production drill activities
- To ensure blast design for all production blast activities
- Compliance to all stope reconciliation when required.
- Compliance to logging and firing of IKON blasts when required.
- Mine production scheduling in place:
- Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly
- Budget Expenditure not exceeded by more than 10% monthly – support reduction of wastage & repair before replacing parts where possible.
- Handovers conducted accurately every day.
- Compliance to completing required Logs for Inspection daily, weekly, monthly.
- To ensure that the system is properly implemented (including testing, training and implementation aspects)
- To monitor the systems effectiveness
- To get user feedback on the systems effectiveness and satisfaction levels of user group.
Qualification requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering (BSc)
- Project Management
- Underground Mining Methods and Systems
- Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness.
Experience and competencies needed.
- Minimum of 4 – 5 years in Underground environment
- At least 3–5-year experience in underground Mine planning and Drilling and blasting
- Mine Planning software experience-Deswik/ Datamine-5D Planner
- Experience in the Gold Mining Industry
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to interact with People of diverse cultures and levels.
- Strong Safety Background and ability to drive a Safe working environment and practices.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Computer skills –MS Excel, Access, Word, Outlook.
- Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment.
- Demonstrated ability to safely operate above normal scopes of working ethics.
- Must have a valid driving license.
- High professional conduct at all times and the ability to deal with a diverse client base.
