About the job Senior Accountant
Role Objective:
The Senior Accountant, Tanzania will be responsible for country-level full-cycle book-keeping, maintaining financial systems and processes, providing financial support to management, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements of the local and federal laws, as well as Jaza Energys financial procedures.
Responsibilities:
Full-cycle Bookkeeping
- Payroll
Add and remove staff in the payroll system, while keeping in mind compliance and communication requirements across all departments.
Prepare monthly payroll calculations for all deductions and remittances, distribute pay stubs to all staff and set up payments by deadline.
Complete TZ payroll for all staff in a timely and accurate manner
Complete remittance of all payroll taxes, including NSSF, ZSSF, WCF, NHIF, HESLB, PAYE and SDL.
- Sales Tax Withholdings
Prepare periodic returns of TZ Withholding, and manage communications with Vendors and TRA.
Prepare annual Corporate Tax installments and required payments in accordance with the established timelines.
- Corporate Tax and Business License
Prepare annual corporate tax returns within the deadlines and prepare all payments as required.
Work with Regional Coordinators on regional compliances for Licenses, OSHA, etc. as required to ensure compliance and avoid late filing penalties and interest.
- Financial Planning & Analysis
Assist the country-level Managing Director with preparation of monthly budgets in an accurate and timely manner
Prepare any ad-hoc reports or analysis for the business unit as requested by Canadian or country-level management.
- Accounts Payable
Process Accounts Payable payments for funds sent through computerized accounting systems.
Review all requests and invoices to ensure correct categories and classes of financial info used.
Review employee advance retirements to ensure all required documentation is included.
Report lack of compliance with Accounts Payable process and deadlines to the Financial Controller
- General Operations
Stay up to date on changes from TRA
Maintain day-to-day financial control for all expenditures to ensure that business unit stays within budget.
Maintain appropriate relations with all stakeholders and provide reports to ensure compliance with the financial terms and conditions of all contracts
Support Country Managing Director with administrative duties.
Compliance management
Understand all Tanzanian regulatory reporting and remittance requirements and be prepared to liaise with the TRA, auditors, and other regulatory bodies.
Ensure appropriate financial regulations and controls are in place and in use at all times;
Ensure that the company complies with the tax and reporting regulations of Tanzania;
Ensure that the appropriate levels of insurance are adhered to by the company;
Ensure the procurement of assets is done in a cost-effective manner if done locally;
Recommend process and systems improvement to enhance quality and efficiency within the business;
Prepare periodic (weekly, monthly, quarterly etc.) management and ad hoc reports.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
A Bachelors or Masters degree in Finance/Accounting from a reputable institution coupled with Professional Certification, e.g. ACCA, CPA
Minimum 3 years post-certification experience in a similar role
Experience in the energy sector, considered an asset
Experience with computerized accounting systems
Tax and regulatory compliance experience
Experience in preparing budgets and financial reports for management
Required Competencies
