The position reports to Head of Programme, working under close support and guidance of the Country Office to provide support to Policy and Programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs

  • The incumbent will be WFP Liaison Officer in Zanzibar Office.
  • Represent WFP and contribute inputs to the Zanzibar Liaison Officers (ZO) Team.
  • Liaise with UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) through UN Liaison Officer based in Zanzibar.
  • Represent WFP and participate in all activities relevant to UN in general and WFP in particular as organized by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (RGoZ) through relevant line ministries.
  • Roll out WFP Country Strategic Plan (CSP) activities to Zanzibar.
  • Provide WFP Project management support to specific and defined programmes in Zanzibar.
  • Liaise with Government counterparts, NGOs, CSOs, and media to ensure effective collaboration, monitor ongoing WFP projects.
  • Follow data gathering and monitoring systems, ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained for WFP activities.
  • Attend all UN activities where WFP is invited to participate.
  • Contribute to the preparation of attribute and timely reporting of WFP Programmes and activities that enable informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
  • Support the identification, development, and management of potential partnerships to collaborative working with RGoZ, NGOs, and CSOs leading to improved food and nutrition assistance, blue economy intervention packages.
  • Support capacity building of Government staff, NGOs partners to prepare for and respond to food and nutrition assistance needs, disaster preparedness, and response capacities.
  • Perform other activities as required.

Education:

  • Advanced Degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or other related fields relevant to international development assistance. OR
  • First degree with additional years of related experience and/or trainings/courses.

Experience:

  • At least 6 – 8 years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Has gained experience in implementing technical programmes, (i.e. Nutrition, Agriculture etc.)
  • Has implemented Programmes and provided inputs into designing operations.
  • Has provided inputs into policy discussions and decisions.
