PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
To assist Survey Technician III and II in carry out survey field work includes operate survey equipment, hold a survey staff, spray the mark at the staked survey point and place/hit the survey pegs in the ground, send the survey light vehicles (LVs) to the workshop for the scheduled maintenance and service or in case of the breakdown as well as general housekeeping of the survey equipment, stores and vehicles.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certificate or Diploma in Geomatics or Land Surveying from recognized institutions.
- The incumbent must have a valid Tanzania driving license.
EXPERIENCE:
- The incumbent must have at least (3) years working experiences in mining industry or engineering projects.
MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Be pro-active in all aspects of operational safety and encourage teamwork within the department.
- Operate GPS (RTK) and or total station (Jigger) and or hold a survey staff/rod during survey of mined area for the preparation of as-built mine/pit drawings.
- Operate GPS (RTK) and or total station (Jigger) and or hold a survey staff/rod for the regular pit survey to enable month end survey processes.
- Operate GPS (RTK) and or total station (Jigger) and or hold a survey staff/rod for the regular stockpiles surveys to enable accurate stockpile volumes to be calculated at the end of each month.
- Operate GPS (RTK) and or total station (Jigger) and or hold a survey staff/rod for setting out pit and mining limits, batter pegs and any other surveys to guide mining to excavate to the design.
- Operate GPS (RTK) and or total station (Jigger) and or hold a survey staff/rod during staked-out of drill and blast collars patterns and survey of the charged holes prior to blast.
- Operate GPS (RTK) and or total station (Jigger) and or hold a survey staff/rod for setting out and survey of all grade control drill holes, ripline, phase sampling and exploration drill holes as required.
- Place a mark (with colored spray paint) and hammer the pegs at marked points and write the design information on top of the pegs then tie up the colored flagging tapes for the visibility and classification.
- Perform transfer of the set-out files to the survey control unit/controller for marking on the ground as well as transfer of the field raw data to the computer for the further survey processes.
- Best operating practices in handling, keeping and maintain of surveying equipment and light vehicles (LVs).

- Operate CALS to survey/scan old underground mine workings (voids) through a borehole to update the void model and plans for safe mining practices.
- Operate Quarryman laser scanner to capture points clouds data from inaccessible areas like undercut mine bench in the pit, stockpiles etc.
- Actively participates in safety and work-related training.
- Actively participate in work related training including coaching of new survey employees, students and assistants in the methods, techniques and procedures of Surveying and all affiliated Mining requirements.
- Act in the position of Survey Technician II (OP) when required.
- Perform daily pre-start check and send the vehicles to the workshop for the scheduled maintenance and service or in case of the breakdown.
- Perform cleanness of the survey LVs, Instruments, and stores in regular manner.
- Collect the PPEs, survey field consumables and tools from the warehouse when required.
