Job Description
Background
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the centre of its efforts, UN Women is mandated to lead and coordinate the United Nations’ system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming are translated into action. It is also mandated to provide strong and coherent leadership in support of the Member States’ priorities and efforts and build effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.

Championed by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania (URT), H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan, the URT adopted the action Coalition on Economic Justice and Rights as a vehicle towards the realization of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, with increased measures including investments in gender-responsive public and private quality care services, law and policy reforms.
Tanzania’s commitments include enhancing measures such as investments in gender-responsive public and private quality care services, enacting law and policy reforms, creating an enabling policy and legal environment, and supporting women and young women in expanding decent work in both the formal and informal economy to achieve economic justice. Additionally, the commitments aim to broaden women’s access to and control over productive resources, as well as to design and implement gender-responsive macro-economic plans, budget reforms, and stimulus packages.
