Job Overview and General Responsibilities

As a part of the executive leadership team, the CFO will lead the financial management function of the organization, ensuring sound financial planning, reporting, and control systems are in place to support our mission and objectives. The CFO will provide strategic financial guidance to the executive leadership team and oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and compliance.

Location

Themi Hill, Arusha, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. The role may include travel to other locations.

Key working relationships with the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Financial Controller, Finance Coordinator, Operations Manager, and Human Resource Manager.

Role Responsibilities

  1. Financial Strategy and Policy Development:
  2. Develop and implement financial strategies, plans, and policies in alignment with the governance handbook, organisational goals, and objectives.
  3. Stay informed about developments in accounting standards, regulations, and best practices, and ensure their integration into organisational policies and procedures.
  1. Budgeting and Financial Forecasting:
  2. Lead the annual budgeting process and ensure accurate and timely preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
  3. Collaborate with managers to develop project budgets and monitor financial performance.
  1. Financial Performance Monitoring and Analysis:
  2. Monitor financial performance against budget and forecasts, analyzing variances and identifying areas for improvement.
  3. Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making by the executive leadership team and the I-NGO Board.
  1. Financial Operations and Compliance:
  2. Oversee cash flow management, including monitoring cash balances, forecasting cash needs, and managing investments.
  3. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements, including tax laws, audit standards, and donor regulations.
  4. Manage relationships with external auditors, financial institutions, donors, and other stakeholders.
  5. Lead the preparation of financial statements, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate financial risks.
  7. Supervise and train the finance team, providing leadership, guidance, and professional development opportunities.
  8. Any other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.

Education, skills, and experience

  1. Holder of Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; and CPA qualification.
  2. At least 10 years of work experience in an accounting/finance position and 5 years as CFO or senior financial executive. Ideally in an NGO.
  3. In-depth knowledge of financial management principles, practices, and regulations.
  4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and trends.
  5. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement financial strategies that support organisational goals and objectives.
  7. Proficiency in financial management software.
  8. Experience working with donors, grant funding, and compliance requirements in the non-profit sector is highly desirable.
