Assistant Accountant Job Opportunity at UMATI

UMATI, established in 1959, a member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation  (IPPF), is a leading non-profit organization providing Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH)  Information and services in Tanzania. The Organization has a long history of leadership in the  country’s SRH through different projects and its own clinics in Kilimanjaro, Dodoma,  Morogoro, Songea, and Mbinga. These projects and clinics provided iintegrated SRH  information and services to youth, women, and men of reproductive age. UMATI is governed by  a well-established volunteer structure.

Job title: Assistant Accountant 

 

Reporting to: Project Accountant 

 

Location: UMATI Head Office, Dar es salaam 

Job Purpose:

Assistant Accountant working in the field of finance helps to support the implementation of  policies and practices for financial management. The incumbent will be responsible for finance  and administrative support ensuring day to day financial management functions and general  office operations and procedures. 

He/She will be under the direct supervision of the Project Accountant and will assist with a wide  range of duties, including reviewing data for accuracy, completeness, filing of supporting  documents, data capturing, ensuring up-to-date filing system and scanning of all financial  vouchers. 

 

The incumbent will be given an on-job training opportunity by being assigned to work on low  value, low risk finance cases for which along each step of the way s/he will be guided on the  UMATI financial policies and procedures including best practices. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. 

  • Payment processing for approved requests
  • Daily data entry for invoices, payments, receipts and expenses
  • Preparation of month end reports for receivables and payables
  • Ensure bank reconciliations are done on monthly basis and fully signed
  • Populating data in donor report templates for review on monthly basis
  • Preparation of month end BVA reports for assigned projects for review
  • Filing of all finance related documents in a good order as per UMATI’s guideline.
  • Monthly Scanning of finance documents  
  • Receive, review, log and route incoming communication and payment requests/invoices.
  • Review supporting documentation such as expenses for accuracy and completeness  before posting.
  • Assists with provision of requested documentations during the Annual Statutory and  Project Audits.
  • Review and ensure all payments are fully supported and EFD receipts are attached for  paid invoices
  • Assist with month-end financial reports. 

Required qualifications: 

  • A holder of Degree in Accountancy, Commerce or Business Administration.
  • At least two years of work experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Power point.
  • Ability to interact professionally with the team.
  • Good knowledge and appetite to learn new things.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of accounting and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in English and Kiswahili.
  • Should be capable of preparing files and maintaining records and documentation.
  • Should have good written and oral communication skills.
  • Other skills required are related to problem solving, entering and verifying data.
  • Knowledge of any accounting software, SAGE 300 is preferred.
  • Attention and keen to details.
  • Ability to multi-task.
