On behalf of our Tanzania based client, we are looking for a competent and experienced Agronomy Officer.
Descriptions.
We are looking for an Agronomy Officer to play a pivotal role in our efforts to empower farmers, promote sorghum production, and enhance agro-entrepreneurship at the district level. This position requires a proactive individual with a passion for agricultural development, strong organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
The Agronomy Officer will report directly to the Agri services Operations Lead and functionality to the Head of Agri services and will be required to collaborate closely with other consortium team Members.
Primary location:
Singida, Mkalama District, Iguguno Ward.
Key responsibilities:
- Training: Drive capacity building activities aimed at enhancing farmers production skills and knowledge in good agricultural practices
- Program Support: coordination of various program activities related to agro-entrepreneur development, farmer engagement, crop production, aggregation, and marketing at the county level.
- Sorghum Production: Provide support in managing day-to-day Small Holder Farmers sorghum production activities, such as assisting with the crop calendar, input procurement, planting, and crop management.
- Agro-Entrepreneur Mobilization: Help in mobilizing agro-entrepreneurs to deliver essential farmer services, including input access, advisory support, mechanization, aggregation, finance, and market access.
- Demonstration Sites: Establish and maintain high-quality demonstration sites (plots) to be used in delivery of practical farmer trainings by the agro-entrepreneurs.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Support in building local partnerships with district and Ward Agricultural officers, input suppliers, and service providers to enhance project outcomes.
- Data Management: Monitor and provide timely periodic data to inform collation of reports from the accomplished field activities.
- Reporting: Prepare regular program progress reports on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis, as well as ad hoc reports when needed.
- BDS Provider Coordination: Work closely with the Business Development Service (BDS) providers to facilitate farming systems’ commercialization within the sorghum value chain. Support in organizing peer learning sessions and provide feedback on progress.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in either of the following disciplines: Agriculture, Agriculture Education and Extension, Agribusiness management.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in project coordination and management preferably in commercialized agricultural value chain either in the private, rural or community development organizations.
- Experience working in diverse and multi-stakeholder environment
- Experience working with production groups, cooperatives or contracted farmers will be preferred
ADDED ADVANTAGE
- Understanding of gender, youth and social inclusion mainstreaming within agriculture development projects.
- Demonstrate expertise in facilitation, capacity building and fostering partnerships through formal trainings.
- Excellent command of Swahili and English.
- Excellent presentation, report writing and communication skills.
- Strong ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to ride a motorcycle, valid driving license and at-least 1-year riding experience.
